How to install
Four steps to Skull Island.
You need Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) or Linux (x86-64), a graphics card that supports Vulkan (or DirectX 12 on Windows), about 7 GB of free space, and a disc image made from your own King Kong Xbox 360 disc.
Windows
Install.
Download
Get KingKong-…-windows-x64.zip from the latest release (v1.9.11, 22 MB) and unzip it anywhere.
Start
Run king_kong.exe. The launcher opens on its first setup.
Pick your disc image
Choose Select disc image and pick your King Kong disc image. The launcher checks it, copies the game files (about 6.3 GB) into a
gamefolder next to the exe and takes its artwork from them.Set up and play
The launcher prepares the graphics once, offers the HD texture pack and the PS2 cutscenes, and walks you through the graphics options and button prompts. Then press Play. What setup does.
The download contains only the port. No game files are included: they come from your own disc. Please don't ask for game files anywhere; the project can't help with that.
Linux
Linux, natively.
The Linux version is a native AppImage with the Vulkan renderer, for x86-64 PCs and handhelds such as the Steam Deck.
Download
Get KingKong-linux-x86_64.AppImage from the latest release and put it anywhere, for example in your home folder.
Allow it to run
In your file manager, open its Properties and allow it to run as a program, or run
chmod +xon it in a terminal.Start
Start it. The launcher opens on its first setup: pick your disc image and set up as on Windows.
Add to Steam (optional)
To play from Steam's Game Mode, choose Games › Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library in Steam's desktop mode and add the AppImage.
DLSS, FSR 3.1, FSR 4 and XeSS are Windows only; on Linux, FSR 1 and NIS are there. Saves, settings and downloads live in your standard user data folder, and the launcher's About tab opens each in one click.
Which disc
This disc, and only this one.
The port is made for this release of the game. Other versions, the 2005 PC version among them, won't work.

Check your disc image
The launcher checks the title ID before it installs. To check the image yourself, run this in PowerShell (with your own path) and compare the result with the SHA-1 above:
Get-FileHash "C:\Games\King Kong.iso" -Algorithm SHA1
Updating
Keeping it up to date.
When a new version is out, the launcher offers it as it opens: Update now installs it and restarts the launcher. Your installed game, saves and settings stay as they are.
