King Kong PC Port

Features / Stability and privacy

Steady, and private.

The game starts safely and keeps what is on your PC to itself. Anything it can send online is anonymous, listed here, and up to you.

Settings › Advanced in the launcher

Safe start

A safe start.

If the graphics API you chose fails to start, the game starts on the other one and tells you. If neither starts, it explains how to update your graphics driver and where to get help.

If something does go wrong, a report is saved on your PC with your user name and personal folders removed, ready to send us if you want help. Settings › Advanced › Saved crash reports opens the folder. How to report a problem.

What is sent

Online players, and exactly what it sends.

Online players shows how many people are playing right now. It is explained at setup and is a switch in Settings › About. While it is on, the launcher checks in every 5 minutes with four things: a random number that isn't linked to you, the port's version, Windows or Linux, and whether you are in the game. No name, account, IP address or anything from your PC is kept, and switching it off deletes the random number.

The same switch shares a little more to help the game run well on every PC: anonymous graphics data and a short performance summary when you quit (frame rate, graphics card, driver and main settings), and a crash report, if there was one, on the next start. Nothing is sent while it is off.

All of it goes to the project's own small server, used only to count players and to make the game run better.

Discord and saves

Discord, saves and updates.

  • Discord status only talks to the Discord app on your PC; nothing is sent anywhere else. It is a switch in Settings › About.
  • Your saves are copied to a backup folder before you play, and before one is deleted or overwritten.
  • Updates replace only the port's own files: your installed game, saves and settings stay as they are.
