Features / Pause menu
Pause, adjust, take a picture.
Press Start or Esc and the game stops behind a pause menu in the launcher's style. Change settings while you play, go back to your last checkpoint, or fly a camera around the frozen scene and save the picture.
Pause menu
A pause menu that does more.
A short list on the left over the paused game: Resume, Photo mode, Controls, Gameplay and Settings, then Load last checkpoint, Score or Save game where the game offers them, Quit to main menu and Quit game. Settings opens a second list with Display, Graphics and Audio, and a strip at the bottom says what the selected item does.
Settings that can change while you play do so at once: the upscaler and its mode, the frame rate cap, brightness and gamma, the field of view, the texture pack and more. The ones that can't are greyed at the bottom of each page under Change from the main menu. It works with a controller, the keyboard and the mouse, and what you change is saved.
Last checkpoint
Back to your last checkpoint.
Load last checkpoint takes you back to the last checkpoint you reached, as the game does after a death, but it doesn't count as one. It asks first, and it is there in every chapter.
Photo mode
Photo mode.
Photo mode in the pause menu keeps the game paused while you fly a free camera around the scene: the sticks, with the triggers for down and up, or W A S D and the mouse, with roll and field of view. Jack's floating arms and the HUD are hidden, while Ann and Kong stay in the picture.
- LooksBlack and white, sepia and tints, with exposure, contrast, saturation and white balance.
- Lens and filmDepth of field, vignette, film grain, letterbox bars and a mirror.
- EffectsCel shading, sharpening, brightness and gamma, for the picture only.
- SaveA or Enter saves a full-resolution picture without any menus to the screenshots folder in your user data. Nothing you change in photo mode changes your settings.
Free camera
Free camera and a clean screen.
While you play, F9 switches to a free camera and F10 hides the HUD, the ammo counter and the subtitles, as Hide HUD does. FREECAM.txt in the game's folder lists the controls.
